2. A relaxed atmosphere with a bench
A table and four to ten chairs – that’s the standard. But how about putting a bench on one side of the table? This is also particularly hip this year. A bench will give your dining room a very inviting and relaxing modern look. The bench can be, but doesn’t necessarily have to be, part of a set with table and chairs – mixing is allowed here too.
Dining room benches come in many varieties: with a backrest or without, with a cozy upholstered seat or in sheer wood, freestanding or fixed to a wall. You can further enhance the bench with pillows, blankets or (artificial) furs. This will make sure it doesn’t look like the sort of bench you would usually find in grandpa’s corner or in a beer tent.
3. A round fit
Round tables are popular for weddings and other celebrations because they encourage eye contact among all the guests and stimulate conversation. That’s why they will also be popular in homes in 2021. They offer the added advantage of being easier to place than a square table, especially in small dining rooms or alcoves.

Fancy patterns, special fabrics or extravagant wood engravings – if you want to set a special emphasis in your dining room this year, statement chairs are the way to go. They immediately enhance any room and catch the eye.
Upholstered chairs with velvet covers in all possible shades are especially trendy this year. Soft and shiny, they provide a touch of extravagance while also being very comfortable.
Statement chairs are best paired with a plain table or a table that picks up on a design element of the chair. For example, if the chair has golden legs, a table with golden features is particularly suitable. When using statement chairs, you should furnish the rest of the room in a rather restrained way so that the chairs attract all the attention.

Statement tables don’t tolerate competition and prefer to be accompanied by plain chairs that draw the eye fully to the legs of the table.
